Fashion Friday – Just for Mom

So much time and thought is put into what to dress your children in for their portrait session, (though we certainly make it easier with our ‘what to wear’ pre session suggestions), by the time mom gets around to selecting her outfit, the creativeity is out the window. Well today that changes. Piperlime just launched a new section of their site dedicated to apparel, and they have some great designer items for fall. So this post is dedicated to the moms out there trying to decide what to wear for your portrait session, when you jump in for those shots with the kids.

Start with your favorite pair of comfy jeans, or try this pair from Paige Denim, complete with distressing. I am totally lusting after these spice colored boots from Frye, what a great versatile shoe that can be dressed up or down. On top layer a ruffle shell from Nanette Lapore under a soft and cozy camel colored cardigan sweater coat from Vince. For a pop of color, try a teal thermal scarf, which plays wonderfully off this autumn palette.

This look is current yet classic, comfortable and perfect for the hip Boston mama looking for a modern portrait.

OK, I want everything! Off to check out Piperlime. I so need a new look.

By the way, this is a great blog idea. Thanks for posting.

Dylan | Senior Pictures

As the yearbook deadlines are fast approaching, I’m sharing some of my favorites from Dylan’s senior photo session this weekend. I know some guys aren’t into getting their portraits taken, but Dylan was a great sport and we made sure to get some smiles for mom ;) Aren’t his eyes gorgeous? We found some cool spots to photograph in right around town and Dylan even showed off his drumming skills for a few shots!

Julie and Michael | Boston Area Wedding Photography

This weekend I helped Sarah Freel photograph the wedding of Julie and Michael.  We started the evening at Julie’s parent’s house while the bridesmaids got ready.

Julie and Mike have an adorable daughter, Emma, who kept everyone in smiles.

The ceremony, held at The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, was short and sweet.

The reception, held at the Adams Inn in Quincy,  was moved indoors because of the rain, but that didn’t stop anyone from celebrating! Props to Gary from Boston’s Wedding Entertainment who kept the night running smoothly.

All the single ladies got into the bouquet toss and I made this little slide show because I thought it was too funny- the Maid of Honor caught the bouquet – check out the air on her leap!

Fashion Friday | Letting your Tween Shine

This week’s Fashion Friday is all about your tween girl – you know, the one who is too old for the cutesy things you can dress your 5 year old in, but too young to start looking like an 8th grader. There is an opportunity here to inject a great deal of personal style in this outfit, and a special shopping trip for an outfit will make your not yet teen feel included and excited about  her upcoming portrait session. The clothing for this look is all from The Children’s Place. A cute graphic tee peeks out from under a charcoal studded vest, both giving off a little glam rock vibe. A denim skort is play friendly and perfect paired with adorable argyle patterned socks. A plaid headband and pretty-in-pink shoes from Old Navy complete the look. Just writing this is conjuring up memories of peanut butter & bannana sandwiches and MASH, ahh to be 9 again ;)

Back to School Envy

I was a guest blogger last week on my good friend Kate’s blog, Domestikated Life. Kate blogs mostly about home decorating and a little bit about fashion, and I was asked to be part of a series on what ‘grown-ups’ would put on their Back to School wishlists. My post can be read in full over on her blog, but here is my inspiration board, all things I have (or want!) in my office. I always love to see pictures and layouts of people’s studios and creative spaces, so here is a small glimpse into mine-without needing to clean off my desk ;)
