The rain finally broke- well, at least for the afternoon. Never letting an opportunity pass me by, I coaxed Navya out for an afternoon out. I’ve been trying to make portraits of Navya for a year but she is always reluctant because she is “uncomfortable” in front of the camera. And while children can look beyond my lens and connect with me almost effortlessly, the extra hurdle is sometimes there for adults- and that’s ok!

My philosophy is about authenticity and relaxation. Part of the experience working with a custom photographer is the relationship that forms during a session. I’ll talk to you, make jokes, and direct you until you are so comfortable you forget my camera is even out.

Here are a few highlights from today’s “victory”!

  • Jana - Taz, tell her she is beautiful! I love the second one. You are so talented!

  • Lu - oh, my goodness. Beautiful pictures and beautiful subject. I really like the color in the first picture.

Well, its hard to update this with new photos when I’ve had to reschedule two sessions this week because of the weather! Its been so foggy I can only see the bottom half of the Prudential building- the top is swallowed up by the clouds. Its going on raining 5 days here and the forecast isn’t looking up. So I thought I’d share the story behind one of my favorites.

This photograph wasn’t made during a session. It was a Sunday afternoon and I was headed to meet some friends for coffee- you know, regrouping after the weekend. I had been walking around my street shooting an assignment for the school newspaper so I had my camera with me. As I approached the meeting spot I saw that my friends were in the window but they hadn’t seen me yet. I quickly composed the shot and they all looked up to see who the person standing outside the window was- me!

I only I had time for one frame and this was it. Notice in the windows you can see a reflection of the city behind me; busy as ever, even on a lazy Sunday afternoon.(I also have to add- I was quite suprised and honored to have my photo featured as photo of the day on Blu’s Daily Blog)

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing one of my favorite friends, Krista, and her boyfriend Craig. They were all dolled up to go to a formal that evening and of course I was right there ready to document! Though I don’t shoot weddings (yet!) this is the way I’d want to shoot them- just making photos of everyone getting ready and being themselves!

After Craig got over the shock of my following him around (yes, I do think your shoes are interesting!) they relaxed and did their thing. Aren’t they sweet?
